Email About Personal TaxPersonal tax returns, prepared in Port Alberni
We prepare and file T1 returns for individuals and couples, for people with rental income, and for sole proprietors reporting business income. You deal with the same small team all year, and if you also use our bookkeeping, the figures your return needs are already reconciled.
Key dates
- April 30: the filing deadline for most people, and the payment deadline for everyone.
- June 15: the filing deadline if you or your spouse or common-law partner carried on a business, with any balance still due April 30.
Dates are from the CRA’s important dates for individuals; when a date falls on a weekend or holiday, the CRA moves it to the next business day.
Self-employed?
A sole proprietor’s return is only as good as the year’s records. Pairing it with monthly bookkeeping means your income, expenses and any GST/HST are settled before tax season. Not sure whether you need a bookkeeper, an accountant, or both? Read bookkeeper vs accountant.
Common questions
When is my personal tax return due?
For most people, April 30. If you or your spouse or common-law partner are self-employed, the return is due June 15, but any balance owing is still due April 30, so interest can start before you file.
What do you need from me?
Your tax slips, receipts for any credits or deductions you want to claim, and, for rental or self-employment income, a summary of income and expenses for the year. After a short consultation we tell you exactly what to send and set up a secure way to send it.
I am a sole proprietor. Do you do the bookkeeping too?
Yes. Sole proprietors can pair the self-employed return with monthly bookkeeping, so the income and expense figures are ready at tax time. If your records need tidying first, bookkeeping help for tax clients is billed hourly.
Do you prepare corporate tax returns?
Not in-house. Corporate (T2) returns run through the accountant we keep on retainer and are quoted separately.
