Salty Sea Bookkeeping is Caleb and Madeline, a husband-and-wife team raising our family in Port Alberni. Caleb leads the bookkeeping, with five years of hands-on experience supporting small businesses, and is pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration, majoring in Accounting, at Vancouver Island University; Madeline looks after clients from the first conversation. When you work with us, those are the two people you deal with.
Being local means you can sit down with us when it helps: to hand over a box of records for catch-up work, to go through a year-end, or to set up payroll for a first employee. The rest of the month, the work happens in cloud software, so you are not driving anywhere to drop off receipts.

Port Alberni sits at the head of the Alberni Inlet, in the middle of the Island, with Highway 4 running east to Parksville and Qualicum Beach and west to Ucluelet and Tofino. We keep the books for small businesses and sole proprietors here in the Valley, and work online with businesses along that whole corridor and across Vancouver Island.

- Catch-up bookkeeping, scoped in writing after a records review
- Payroll, including remittances, T4s and Records of Employment
- GST/HST filing on your real reporting period
- Personal tax returns for individuals, couples, rental income and sole proprietors
Where we draw the line
We are bookkeepers, not an accounting firm. Corporate tax returns go through the accountant we keep on retainer and are quoted separately, and financial statement audits and reviews need a licensed CPA firm. We can act as your authorized CRA representative, including through a CRA audit or review. If your needs fall outside what we do, we will tell you early and point you to the right professional.
